Danny Boyle’s zombie sequel “28 Years Later” made headlines for being shot using several iPhone 15 Pro Max smartphones, making it the largest movie ever made with iPhones, with a budget of around $75 million, as reported by Wired. However, there are some important caveats to consider. The sources for the story are anonymous due to staff having signed NDAs, and the entire film was not solely shot on iPhones, as other cameras were used as well. Each iPhone was customized to work with professional DSLR lenses, which were expensive, and were protected by cages. This marks a full-circle moment for Boyle and his team, as the original “28 Days Later” was shot on a prosumer-grade camcorder. The third installment in the franchise, “28 Years Later,” is set for release in June 2025, starring Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ralph Fiennes, and Cillian Murphy. The movie will be the first of three new films set in the universe of fast-moving rage zombies, all written by Alex Garland. Smartphone usage in Hollywood is not new, with other films like “Tangerine” and “Unsane” also being shot on iPhones.
