Lyft has introduced a new price lock feature to address the issue of unpredictable costs for daily commuters using the platform. This tool will cap ride costs, even during peak hours when prices are typically at their highest. However, there is a required $3 monthly subscription fee to access this service, and details about how the cap functions remain unclear. Lyft anticipates a 40 percent increase in rides with the implementation of this feature, despite being the one to set the initial prices. Additionally, a promotion offers free “first day” rides to 100 customers starting new jobs, facilitated through LinkedIn. It’s worth noting that Lyft has previously experimented with subscription-based services, like its Pink subscription service that has shifted from offering ride discounts to providing perks such as priority pickups and free cancellations. This program is still available for $10 per month or $100 per year.
