Xbox is changing its process for forming connections on the gaming platform by adopting a new method that resembles other social platforms, where users send friend requests that can be accepted or denied. Previously, Xbox had a more passive approach to adding friends, allowing users to follow any Xbox account and become friends if both accounts followed each other. The recent update will not affect existing friendships but will offer new privacy and notification options for managing friend requests and followers. The new friends system is currently available as a preview for Xbox Insiders, with no specified public release date. In addition to this update, Xbox has also introduced the Game Pass Standard plan and opened pre-orders for the all-digital Xbox Series X.
