Apple Intelligence is on the cusp of being ready for mainstream use, with the release of the public beta of iOS 18.1 by Apple, showcasing some of the major generative AI features they have been promoting. The public versions of iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, and macOS Sequoia 18.1 are expected to bring Apple Intelligence features to compatible devices in the coming weeks, with the public betas being more stable and less risky to install than the developer versions. Currently, only the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max support Apple Intelligence, but this will change when Apple ships the iPhone 16 lineup on Friday, expanding support to M-series iPads and Macs as well. To access Apple Intelligence tools, your device and Siri language must be set to US English, with support for other languages anticipated to roll out in the future. The initial wave of features includes transcribing phone calls, email prioritization, rewriting tools, and photo clean-up features, with additional features like ChatGPT integration and Siri’s improved context understanding expected to be introduced gradually over the coming months. To install the iOS 18.1 public beta, users can follow specific steps on their devices through the Settings menu, with iPad and Mac users having slightly different instructions for installation.
