It’s incredible to reflect on the debut of the reMarkable 2 in March 2020 amidst a time now overshadowed by other events. Over the four-plus years that have passed since then, significant changes have occurred, leading to the arrival of its successor, the reMarkable Paper Pro. This third-generation writing slate focuses on providing a distraction-free writing experience, now enhanced with a color e-paper display, a larger screen, faster internals, and an active stylus for a more realistic paper-and-pen feel. However, the introduction of more advanced technology also brings a higher price point, prompting the question of whether it is worth it. Serving as a standard bearer for devices bridging the gap between analog and digital, the reMarkable Paper Pro offers users the ability to read, write, and edit their own documents and PDFs in a focused manner without the distractions commonly found in full-fledged computers, tablets, or phones. By integrating a color screen into its e-paper tablet, reMarkable has created a best-in-class writing experience that enables users to work in dark environments, enjoy improved performance, and access a variety of colors for writing and highlighting. The Paper Pro boasts a larger size, a new processor, increased RAM and storage, as well as a more robust battery, making it a significant upgrade from its predecessor. With faster scrolling speeds, reduced input lag, and improved compatibility between handwritten notes and typed text, the Paper Pro offers a more responsive and versatile user experience. The introduction of a backlight and a choice between the Marker and Marker Plus styluses enhance the usability of the device, while the sleek design and visual enhancements further contribute to its overall appeal.
