Dreamhaven, founded by ex-CEO Mike Morhaime of Blizzard, recently unveiled a new game titled Sunderfolk that combines elements of tabletop RPGs with party games like Jackbox, offering a casual pick-up-and-play experience akin to Gloomhaven. The game is designed for players who enjoy tabletop, board, and video games, with a two-screen setup where players control the game on their smartphones. With up to four players and six hero classes, Sunderfolk follows a fantasy RPG storyline where players must defend a town from monsters cooperatively. The unique control scheme aims to make the game more accessible and less time-consuming, catering to both experienced players and newcomers. While primarily intended for couch co-op, online play will also be available upon its release on Nintendo Switch, PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S in 2025, along with an iOS/Android companion app. Early reviews suggest that teamwork in Sunderfolk creates an engaging experience reminiscent of TTRPG game nights, but the gameplay complexity may be daunting for beginners, leaning more towards Gloomhaven than Jackbox in terms of challenge.
