Riot makes more cuts, this time to crown jewel League of Legends

Riot Games, the studio behind League of Legends, is cutting jobs in an effort to prioritize expertise for the game’s continued success, with 32 positions being eliminated across the company. Co-founder Marc Merrill emphasized that this move is not about saving money but ensuring that League remains great for years to come. While Merrill reassured fans that work on the game will not slow down and the team will eventually grow larger, specifics about the new focus or affected departments were not disclosed. This decision comes amidst Riot’s previous downsizing earlier in the year and the closure of the Riot Forge publishing project, indicating a shift towards a more streamlined approach. Despite experimenting with new projects such as Valorant, a first-person team shooter, and a mobile auto chess battler, Riot’s recent moves suggest a move away from innovation towards a more focused future.
