DJI confirms that US customs is holding up its latest consumer drone

DJI’s drones, including the latest consumer products, are facing delays at the US border due to a customs issue, not related to proposed legislation to ban DJI products currently in Congress. This delay will affect sales of the Air 3S drone, as reported by The Verge. The US Customs and Border Protection cited the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act as the reason for the holdups, which DJI claims is unfounded and false. DJI is working to provide documentation proving compliance with the UFLPA, emphasizing it does not have facilities in Xinjiang and undergoes rigorous due diligence by US retailers. The US House of Representatives passed a bill to block DJI drones, but the Senate removed that clause from the 2025 National Defense Authorization Act. However, the amendment could still be reintroduced, potentially leading to a ban on importing new DJI drones. Despite these challenges, DJI dominates the global drone market with a share of over 70 percent, including up to 90 percent among public safety officials. US Customs and Border Protection has not yet commented on the situation.
