Sonos implemented layoffs on Wednesday, cutting approximately 100 employees, primarily from the marketing department, as reported by The Verge. These reductions occur as Sonos aims to promote their new Ace headphones while addressing issues with their recently revamped mobile app, a project driven by CEO Patrick Spence’s push for rapid development. The company confirmed the job cuts, stating that 6% of their workforce, totaling about 1,650 employees globally, were affected. The struggles with the app launch have overshadowed the positive reception of the Ace headphones, causing delays in new product launches and leading to dissatisfaction among loyal customers. Despite efforts to improve the app through a timeline of repairs posted on the blog, customer complaints persist, particularly regarding missing features and functionality glitches. The layoffs have not been well-received by the Sonos community, with some expressing frustration towards Spence for his role in the workforce reductions, a decision attributed to the need for faster innovation within the company.
