Zoom recently unveiled the ability for webinar calls to now support up to one million simultaneous participants, following political groups using the platform to raise funds for Vice President Kamala Harris’ election campaign through calls with hundreds of thousands of people. The company now offers various tiers of webinar packages with capacities of 10K, 50K, 100K, 250K, 500K, and 1M attendees, complete with support from Zoom’s Event Services team. Smita Hashim, Zoom’s chief product officer, highlighted the flexibility these large-scale virtual events offer for various sectors. Despite the high cost of hosting these events, Zoom envisions a future where they are common in the enterprise, entertainment, and public sectors. Before this change, Zoom only officially supported up to 100,000 attendees but recently adapted to accommodate the growing demand for large-scale events. The potential for revenue growth from these new webinar capabilities could be significant for Zoom, especially given the fluctuation in their stock price due to the changing landscape of virtual meetings.
