Activision is finally taking steps to reduce the hard drive space that Call of Duty games occupy, in light of the upcoming release of Black Ops 6 on October 25. One major change is the decoupling of Warzone from the default download for annual titles, starting on August 21 with Season 5 Reloaded. This will allow users to only download files for the specific game they purchase, alleviating the frustration of unnecessary storage consumption. Additionally, Activision is expanding its use of texture streaming, beginning with the upcoming Warzone update, which will cycle less frequently used content to a streaming cache to reduce direct downloads. While this may temporarily affect the quality of certain content, users will have the option to adjust settings accordingly. PS5 downloads will also be split into multiple parts with file optimizations for further size reduction. Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 will be released on October 26 and will be available on Game Pass from day one.
