Skateboarding games have experienced a resurgence in popularity in recent years thanks to titles like Devolver’s surrealist skater Skate Story and Phantom Coast Games’ roguelite shredder Helskate. EA has announced plans for an early access release of a new entry in the Skate franchise, simply titled skate., set to launch next year. The game will be available on consoles and will mark the franchise’s first PC release through Steam. Fans have been eagerly anticipating this new title for four years, knowing that it will be a free-to-play live service game with microtransactions. The game will feature a rebuilt “Flick-It” trick control system, expanded character customizations, and playtests based on feedback from fans. Set in the fictional city of San Vansterdam, which has been taken over by the corporate overlord M-Corp, players will once again have the opportunity to shred the city as skaters. The game’s core narrative includes a teaser video starring Tim Robinson as corporate lackey Richard “Richie” Dandle from the show I Think You Should Leave.
