Amazon Echo Show 8 Photos edition owners should expect their devices to start displaying ads as Amazon discontinues its PhotosPlus subscription feature, as reported by customers on Reddit and Threads, and first noted by The Verge. The subscriptions will end on September 12, with support for the photo feature stopping on September 23. Affected users will now have to upload their photos to Amazon Photos with 25 GB of storage and accept the presence of ads on their home screens. The $2 monthly feature previously allowed users to display their own photos on the Echo Show 8 home screen, turning it into a digital picture frame. Amazon has removed all mention of the PhotosPlus subscription from its website and has also discontinued the sale of the Echo Show 8 Photos Edition. The tech giant has faced challenges with Alexa devices, reportedly losing more than $25 billion from 2017 to 2021. They have tried to recover losses by eliminating bonuses for Alexa developers and are working on a premium version of Alexa that could include a monthly subscription fee.
