Americans set a new record for wireless data usage in 2023, consuming over 100 trillion megabytes, a 36 percent increase from the previous year, as reported by Reuters. The number of wireless connections also rose to 558 million, a six percent jump. Interestingly, the surge was driven by advancements like drones, space missions, self-driving vehicles, and precision agriculture, rather than traditional communication methods. However, there is ongoing uncertainty in the US about finding additional spectrum for wireless communication. The CTIA CEO emphasized the need for more licensed spectrum access to support innovation and economic competitiveness. In response, the White House established the National Spectrum Strategy in November 2023 to enhance spectrum access and management.
