Google is expanding Android Earthquake Alerts to the entire US and six territories, using built-in accelerometers in Android phones to issue early warnings based on the USGS ShakeAlert system. The Android Earthquake Alerts System will crowdsource data to determine earthquake activity, providing “Be Aware” or “Take Action” alerts for magnitude 4.5 or higher earthquakes, guiding users on safety measures. The partnership with earthquake experts aims to improve emergency response and reduce verification delays during crises. Along with Earthquake Alerts, Google is introducing new features like offline Maps on Wear OS smartwatches and Circle to Search music identification capabilities.
