Apple has just released iOS 18 for eligible iPhones, which you can find in the Software Update settings. If you’re looking to purchase one of the new iPhone 16 or iPhone 16 Pro models available on September 20, they will already come with iOS 18 installed. However, not every iPhone will be able to run iOS 18, and even those that can may not have access to all the new Apple Intelligence features. Every year, some older iPhone models are removed from Apple’s iOS compatibility list, such as the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X last year. Some older hardware will receive major new features, like the upcoming software update turning AirPods Pro into a hearing aid. Apple has also released a firmware update for AirPods Pro 2. If you want to see all the new iOS 18 features, you can check Apple’s exhaustive list in PDF form. Older devices that were compatible with iOS 17 should still be able to support iOS 18 without needing to buy a new phone. Apple Intelligence features will be available in the US in October and in other countries in subsequent updates. The biggest new features in iOS 18 include the Passwords app, improved Messages app, an organized photos library, and a personalized home screen layout. MacOS Sequoia, iPadOS 18, WatchOS 11, and visionOS 2 are also available for download. Meanwhile, tvOS 18 is still in public beta testing. Apple has pushed new firmware to AirPods Pro earbuds in preparation for the added features coming with iOS 18.
