Apple appears to be going full steam ahead on an iPad-like tabletop device from which you may be able to manage smart home products, oversee household security, and take part in video calls. The device, rumored to debut as soon as 2026, is said to have a thin robotic arm that moves around a large display and could tilt the screen up and down using actuators and rotate 360 degrees. Running on an offshoot of iPadOS, Apple greenlit the device in 2022 with Kevin Lynch, Apple’s vice president of technology, overseeing its development. Reportedly, hundreds of Apple employees are working on the tabletop system, leveraging Apple Intelligence tools like Siri as the main control methods. However, there is internal concern over consumer demand and pricing, set to be around $1,000. This is part of Apple’s push into personal robotics, alongside other devices like smart glasses and AirPods with built-in cameras, as the company aims to diversify its offerings and boost revenue.
