Apple Music’s Music Haptics feature is now live with the official release of iOS 18, providing an accessibility tool that integrates with Apple Music on iPhones. Utilizing the phone’s speaker-based haptics system known as the Taptic Engine, it adds taps, textures, and vibrations to the audio of songs, offering an innovative way for individuals with hearing loss to experience music. Compatible with Apple Music, Apple Music Classical, and Shazam, as well as select third-party apps when connected to Wi-Fi or cellular, users can enable Music Haptics in the Accessibility settings menu and toggle it on or off from the Now Playing screen in the Apple Music app. Supported on iPhone 12 and later, the feature has inspired themed playlists like Haptics Beats and Haptics Bass, filled with songs optimized for the haptic technology. Some have described the experience as reminiscent of an Atari game, while others can explore and form their own opinions by trying it out firsthand.
