As of today, eBay consumer-to-consumer (C2C) sellers in the UK no longer have to pay selling fees for any domestic purchases. The company had tested free selling for pre-owned clothes earlier this year, and based on the data from this test, eBay decided to eliminate seller fees in the UK and Germany for domestic sales. CEO and President Jamie Iannone mentioned that this move aims to strengthen the marketplace by lowering barriers to C2C selling and improving inventory breadth and depth on eBay. However, a “buyer-facing fee” will be implemented early next year. The removal of seller fees in the UK was motivated by the abundance of unused items in the country, and Iannone hopes that this change will attract more sellers to eBay. Competition from platforms like Vinted and Depop, which do not charge seller fees, also influenced eBay’s decision. Additional improvements, such as a streamlined listing process, enhanced local pickup, and a better wallet experience through eBay Balance, were mentioned in the announcement, with more details to be shared at the next Global All Hands event.
