Epic Games is shaking up its Battle Pass policy for Fortnite by allowing previously exclusive rewards to eventually show up in the in-game shop at least 18 months after the pass expires. This change, announced in a blog post on Wednesday, aims to give players more opportunities to access content, including Outfits based on popular licensed characters. The new policy applies to all item types in the Battle Pass, with the shop offering alternative styles of rewards. While this update may reduce the exclusivity pressure of each season for players, Epic emphasized that there is no guarantee that a Battle Pass cosmetic will become available in the shop later on. The company will still notify players if an item will be exclusively available via Battle Pass. Battle passes are crucial for games-as-a-service revenue, with Fortnite’s latest post-apocalyptic-themed pass featuring tie-ins to franchises like Mad Max and Fallout, or the limited-time integration with Fall Guys for a cute and colorful experience.
