Google announced today that the Pixel Watch and Pixel Watch 2 will be receiving the new Watch OS 5, with the latest operating system rolling out to Pixel Watches currently running Watch OS 3.5 and Watch OS 4 starting today. Users will be notified on their devices as the update becomes available over the next week. The Watch OS 5 update will bring enhanced camera controls, Pixel Recorder support, and a grid-view app launcher to older versions of the smartwatch hardware. While there were early reports about potential improvements in battery life, Google did not confirm if the new operating system will extend the battery performance of these older devices. The recent release of the Pixel Watch 3 impressed with its battery life and other upgrades, being the first Pixel smartwatch to feature Watch OS 5 after its debut on Samsung’s Galaxy Watch 7 and Watch Ultra.
