Google’s AI-powered Photos upgrades are slowly being introduced, with Ask Photos, the Gemini-powered chatbot allowing for specific and conversational photo searches, launching in early access for select US users, while the improved search for more descriptive queries is rolling out to all English-speaking users. The upgraded search in Google Photos enables users to use more detailed queries, like searching for activities on a lake or specific people by their interactions, making it easier to manage growing photo libraries. Ask Photos, the Google Photos chatbot revealed at I/O in May, takes this a step further by using Gemini to allow users to ask about anything in their library using natural language. This feature can respond to follow-up prompts and provide personalized search results without using user data for advertising. Users in the US can join the waitlist for early access to Ask Photos, while the enhanced search capabilities in Google Photos are now available to English-speaking users on Android and iOS.
