In August, Kamala Harris’ campaign launched a Twitch account to engage with young people and reach out to hard-to-reach voters, starting with streaming her acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention. On October 9, the channel featured live gameplay for the first time, alongside Vice Presidential nominee Tim Waltz’s speech. Twitch creator Preheat played World of Warcraft on the channel, voicing support for Harris’ platforms and encouraging viewers to vote, aiming to connect with young male viewers on the platform. Other politicians like Joe Biden and Donald Trump have also used Twitch for events and rallies, with Trump’s account being suspended following the January 6 US Capitol riot but reinstated in July. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has also streamed herself playing Among Us on the platform.
