Last year, Lenovo unveiled the world’s first laptop with a transparent MicroLED display called Project Crystal. This year, at IFA, Lenovo showcased another concept laptop with a motorized rotating hinge called the Auto Twist AI PC. The Auto Twist can automatically raise its lid and rotate into various positions, providing enhanced adaptability, improved ergonomics, and potential security benefits. With built-in object tracking, the laptop can follow people around a room, adjust its display for optimal viewing, and even detect when it is not in use to prevent unauthorized access. While the AI capabilities may seem unnecessary, Lenovo hopes the laptop can perform tasks through natural language voice commands. The Auto Twist may have potential applications in point-of-sale terminals or entertainment purposes, as demonstrated by its ability to sync the display with a dancer’s movements or present panoramic photos in a unique way. Despite questions about its practicality, Lenovo’s innovative approach to laptop design is commendable, showing a commitment to evolving the traditional clamshell form factor.
