Kremlin-affiliated Russian troll farms are actively running disinformation campaigns to interfere with the US presidential elections, with a focus on discrediting Kamala Harris and Tim Walz, according to a new report published by Microsoft detailing the activities of the monitored troll farms. These actors struggled after President Biden left the race but recently circulated videos depicting fake attacks by Harris supporters and accusing her of a hit-and-run incident involving a 13-year-old girl, which quickly went viral and garnered thousands of views. Microsoft warns of more disinformation materials, including AI-edited videos, as the election approaches. Meanwhile, other reports have indicted Russian state media employees and Iranian hackers targeting both presidential campaigns, showcasing a multi-faceted effort to influence the election. Meta has also banned Russian state media outlets for foreign interference activity. If readers click on affiliate links in this article and make a purchase, a commission may be earned.
