Nintendo has halted repairs for the New Nintendo 3DS due to a shortage of parts, marking the end of an era for the decade-old hardware. The company’s Japanese support team announced the news, also revealing that repairs for the Nintendo 2DS and New Nintendo 3DS LL will cease once replacement parts run out. Nintendo stopped manufacturing the entire 3DS line in 2020 after a successful run, with the New 3DS and New 3DS XL selling nearly 10 million units globally by 2016 and total 3DS family sales reaching almost 76 million by 2020. While US customers can still rely on Nintendo’s repair service for certain models, DIY fixes and third-party repair platforms like iFixit are available for those who encounter issues with their handhelds. As these devices age, it’s essential to handle them with care, as with the closure of the 3DS eShop, nothing lasts forever.
