Ohio residents now have the convenience of adding their driver’s licenses and state IDs to their Apple Wallet app, making Ohio the fifth US state to accept digital identification. This feature can be used at TSA airport security checkpoints, select businesses, and apps in Ohio. The state is also working on implementing a free age verification app for businesses. The Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles has created an instructional video to guide residents through adding their license or state ID to their Apple Wallet. Ohio now joins Arizona, Colorado, Georgia, and Maryland in accepting and recognizing digital licenses and IDs in the iPhone wallet app, with 24 other states, Washington DC, and Puerto Rico exploring or in the process of implementing mobile digital license regulations. Google Wallet is accepted in four states, including Arizona, Colorado, Georgia, and Maryland. Apple introduced the ability to store driver’s licenses in the digital wallet app with iOS 15 in 2021.Residents in the UK can now view their bank account balances on the Apple Wallet app, and hotel guests can store their room key cards in the app, starting with the Hyatt hotel chain in 2021.
