Polestar, an electric vehicle company, has initiated production for the Polestar 3 in South Carolina, targeting consumers in the US and Europe. The Volvo-owned company’s first SUV was unveiled in 2023, but the transition to a US production facility will help evade hefty tariffs for importing EVs from China. CEO Thomas Ingenlath expressed the significance of manufacturing the Polestar 3 in the USA to offer American customers an electric SUV built locally and fortify business on a broader scale by exporting to Europe. In response to the Biden administration’s substantial increase in import costs for Chinese-made electric vehicles to shield American manufacturers, Polestar had already planned to move production for the Polestar 3 to South Carolina. The upcoming Polestar 4 will be produced at the company’s plant in South Korea starting in mid-2025.
