Roblox has implemented new policies to give parents more control over their children’s use of the online game platform. According to Bloomberg, the company has introduced a new parental account type for guardians to oversee their kids’ activities and friends, as well as requiring parental permission for users under 13 to access certain features. Users aged 9 and under will also need permission to access game modes with moderate violence or crude humor, with these changes set to take effect next month. Safety concerns for young players have been an ongoing issue for Roblox, with previous lawsuits alleging exploitation of minors, hesitancy from Sony to host the game due to inappropriate content concerns, a ban in Turkey over exploitation reports, and accusations of enabling child exploitation and inflating user stats from Hindenburg Research. A Bloomberg Businessweek investigation revealed that at least two dozen individuals have been arrested by US law enforcement since 2018 for abusing or abducting child victims they met on Roblox.
