In January, we discussed the speed and efficiency of the Samsung 990 Evo SSD. Now, just eight months later, Samsung has introduced the 990 Evo Plus SSD, boasting a 50 percent increase in speed compared to its predecessor and catering to gaming, business, and creative uses. Utilizing the 8th generation V-NAND technology, the 990 Evo Plus achieves a maximum sequential speed of 7,250MB/s for the 4TB model, with a write speed cap of 6,300 MB/s. Featuring a nickel-coated heat shield for heat prevention and claiming to be 73 percent more efficient, this SSD offers random read and write speeds of 1,050K IOPS and 1,400K IOPS, respectively. Available in 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB models, all equipped with Samsung Magician Software and AES-256-bit full disk encryption, the new drives will be on the market this fall through select retailers and Samsung’s website, with the 1TB model priced at $110, the 2TB model at $185, and the 4TB model at $345.
