The anticipated single-player game Squadron 42, set in the Star Citizen universe, has been pushed back to a release date in 2026 despite claims from developers that it was “feature complete” the previous year. First announced in 2014, Squadron 42 has faced numerous delays over the past decade. The delay is attributed to the need for additional polish, according to Cloud Imperium Games (CIG) boss Chris Roberts, who expressed confidence in meeting the 2026 deadline. To appease eager fans, the developers unveiled an hour-long gameplay video showcasing the opening scenes. Squadron 42 promises 30 to 40 hours of gameplay and includes first-person action, on-foot exploration and combat, ship piloting, and an impressive voice and motion capture cast featuring actors like Gary Oldman, Henry Cavill, and Mark Hamill. Despite Star Citizen, the parent game, not being fully released since its Kickstarter success in 2012, it continues to attract crowdfunding, with over $729 million raised by CIG over the past 12 years.
