Nintendo has shut down another emulator, Ryujinx, which allowed users to play Nintendo Switch games on Windows, Linux, and Mac operating systems. The developer was contacted by Nintendo with a deal to stop working on the project, but no details were provided about the conditions of the agreement. While the emulator will still function for existing users, the Github repository has been removed. Nintendo’s aggressive stance on emulators, including partnering with a cybersecurity firm in 2023 to combat piracy, has led to settlements with popular emulators like Yuzu, with one settlement reaching $2.4 million. Nintendo also issued over 8,500 DMCA takedowns to remove Yuzu code hosted on Github repositories. This marks another step in Nintendo’s efforts to protect its intellectual property and prevent unauthorized use of its games.
