I am a huge fan of Taskmaster, the UK TV show that challenges five comedians with absurd tasks scored by the taskmaster. Initially seen as a perfect fit for a VR spin-off, Taskmaster VR fell short of capturing the show’s fun and charm. Despite launching on various platforms, the game’s collision detection and motor control issues make it a frustrating experience, especially on lower-powered headsets. The gameplay tasks, like making a sandwich or launching an egg into a frying pan, are hindered by simplistic physics and awkward controls. While the game includes multi-stage challenges and nods to the TV show, it lacks the unexpected solutions and creativity seen in the original tasks. The potential for DLC with new tasks could improve the game’s appeal, but as it stands, Taskmaster VR falls short of capturing the essence of the beloved TV show.
