Tesla has issued a recall on 1.8 million vehicles across the United States, as Reuters reports, a significant number for a company accustomed to such events. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced the recall due to a risk of software failure in notifying individuals of a detached hood, which could obstruct the driver’s view if not properly secured. Tesla has released an over-the-air software update to address the issue, affecting select Model 3, Model S, Model X from 2021 to 2024, and Model Y vehicles from 2020-2024. This year has witnessed several Tesla recalls, including 200,000 cars in January for a faulty backup camera, over 2 million vehicles in February for small warning light text, 125,000 vehicles in May for seatbelt issues, and 12,000 Cybertrucks in June due to faulty windshield wipers and trim.
