If you grew up in the 1980s, then you probably remember the Carmen Sandiego games and how they turned learning boring old geography into a fun, criminal-catching adventure. Netflix, Gameloft, and HarperCollins Productions are bringing the Carmen Sandiego franchise back with a brand new game that lets you play as the famous, fedora-festooned felon. Netflix Games announced today that Carmen Sandiego will be released sometime in the first quarter of 2025 starting on the Netflix mobile streaming app for iOS and Android, with later releases planned for the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation, Xbox consoles, and PC on Steam. The game will be free for Netflix subscribers to play without any in-game purchases or online play. Featuring Gina Rodriguez as the voice of Carmen Sandiego, the new puzzle-adventure game is based on the 2019 Netflix cartoon series and tasks players with tracking down members of the evil organization VILE through a series of missions across the globe. Prior to its Netflix reboot, Carmen Sandiego was a classic educational game series that began in 1985, challenging players to locate Carmen and her gang of thieves who had stolen precious cultural artifacts. The Carmen Sandiego games inspired a beloved kids’ game show on PBS in 1991, as well as a Saturday morning cartoon on FOX and a Netflix animated series. Rodriguez will also star in a live-action Carmen Sandiego film produced by Netflix.
