A federal judge dismissed the Republican National Committee (RNC) case against Google regarding its Gmail service, which accused Google of labeling GOP fundraising emails as spam more frequently than those of the opposing party. District Court Judge Daniel Calabretta from the Eastern California District Court dismissed the case with prejudice, meaning the RNC cannot bring the case to another court but can appeal Calabretta’s decision. Calabretta stated that the RNC failed to prove harm to Gmail users or violate any laws with Google’s conduct. This is the second case the RNC has lost over allegations of unfair filtering by Gmail, as a previous lawsuit in 2022 was also dismissed by Calabretta for failing to show Google’s spam filtering was done in bad faith.
