The dog-esque robots created by companies like Boston Dynamics and MAB Robotics are already terrifying, drawing inspiration from the “Metalhead” episode of Black Mirror and our inherent fear of an uncertain future. However, one particular robot featured in a TechCrunch article really unsettled me in a disturbing way, as it can walk underwater, showcased in a YouTube video by MAB Robotics. The echoing sound it makes on the pool floor is eerily reminiscent of a horror movie score by John Carpenter, adding to the creepy factor as it moves towards the camera like a predator closing in. The whole scene feels like a nightmare straight out of a horror movie soundtrack, inducing a sense of impending doom that I wish would end.
