Listening on my 2020-vintage AirPods Max, I embrace my Apple fanboy status despite the missing features compared to newer models. The recent announcement of a refreshed version with USB-C and new colors for a hefty $550 price tag seems excessive. In contrast, Sony has been consistently updating their flagship headphones, ensuring quality and longevity. Frustratingly, Apple missed the mark by not upgrading the AirPods Max chips to the H2 processors, leaving buyers with outdated technology. While the AirPods Max offer superior sound quality, the lack of modern features at the high price point makes them a tough sell compared to more budget-friendly options with similar capabilities.
