Amidst a backdrop of studio closures and layoffs in the gaming industry, there is a glimmer of hope. Following its closure by Microsoft in May, Tango Gameworks, the studio behind Hi-Fi Rush, has been acquired by Krafton, the developer of PUBG: Battlegrounds. Krafton plans to work with Xbox and ZeniMax to facilitate a smooth transition for Tango Gameworks, ensuring continuity in the development of Hi-Fi Rush and future projects. Microsoft’s acquisition of ZeniMax in 2021 led to the closure of three studios, including Tango Gameworks, known for titles like The Evil Within, Ghostwire Tokyo, and Hi-Fi Rush. The latter, an exclusive title for Xbox Series X and PC, made its way to PS5 in March of this year. Despite the acquisition, Krafton reassured that current Tango games, including The Evil Within, The Evil Within 2, Ghostwire: Tokyo, and Hi-Fi Rush, will not be affected. Founded in 2010 by Resident Evil 4 director Shinji Mikami, Tango Gameworks initially gained recognition for its horror titles before the success of Hi-Fi Rush, which earned a perfect 10 out of 10 Steam score for its gameplay and unique graphical style.
