ChatGPT now boasts 200 million weekly active users, as reported by OpenAI, marking a significant increase from the 100 million users announced last November. Not only has the user base doubled, but API usage has also seen a similar growth following the release of the GPT-4o mini in July. Furthermore, OpenAI’s annualized revenue has surged to $3.4 billion, up from $1.6 billion in 2023, according to CEO Sam Altman. In addition, Apple, Nvidia, and Microsoft are reportedly in talks to invest in a new fundraising round for OpenAI, with potential to push the company’s valuation above $100 billion. Microsoft has already invested $13 billion in AI since 2019, while Apple plans to integrate ChatGPT into its upcoming Apple Intelligence initiative, leading both companies to relinquish their seats on OpenAI’s board amidst antitrust concerns raised by the European Commission.
