Sony’s new team shooter, Concord, is scheduled to be taken offline by Developer Firewalk Studios on September 6, just two weeks after its release, in order to explore options that will better reach players. The digital purchase of Concord has been suspended, and Sony will provide refunds to those who bought the game on PlayStation 5, Steam, and the Epic Games Store. Physical copy buyers can return the game for a refund as well. Despite some positive elements, Director Ryan Ellis acknowledged that the game did not meet expectations in all aspects. Concord’s performance was lackluster, with low player numbers on Steam and estimated sales of only 25,000 copies in the first week. This disappointing outcome has led Sony to make the rare decision to remove the game from circulation, reminiscent of Amazon’s Crucible in 2020. Concord faced challenges from other popular team shooters, including Overwatch 2, Apex Legends, Call of Duty: Warzone, and even Sony’s own Destiny 2. Sony may consider reworking Concord as a free-to-play game in the future, but for now, the game’s swift removal represents a significant setback for the company.
