Meta has been emphasizing the importance of young adults for the future of Facebook, and now the company is making changes to its social network to attract younger users. Updates include a new “local” section on the app, focusing on events and introducing a “Communities” feature on Messenger. These changes aim to help young adults explore their interests and connect beyond their immediate circle. Meta is also enhancing the visibility of events, providing personalized recommendations, and experimenting with AI in groups. Additionally, there will be an Instagram-like Explore section and a dedicated space for Reels within Facebook. The company is adding a “Communities” feature on Messenger, allowing smaller groups to organize conversations similarly to Facebook groups. These efforts are part of Meta’s strategy to engage younger users with tailored social media features. The success of these changes remains uncertain, as the number of young adults on Facebook in the US and Canada has increased but still represents a small portion of the platform’s total user base.
