The Federal Communications Commission has passed rules that will require all wireless calls to the 988 Lifeline to be georouted, ensuring that calls are sent to the location where they are placed for intervention services. National providers must implement georouting within 30 days, while smaller providers have 24 months to comply. The FCC proposed extending this policy to texts sent to 988 as well. Over the years, the FCC has expanded the reach of the 988 Lifeline, making it the shortcut for connecting to the National Suicide Prevention Hotline and including text support. T-Mobile was among the first to activate 988 for accessing mental health services. If you are struggling, call 988 or 1-800-273-8255 (1-800-273-TALK) for help, or reach the Lifeline through their webchat.
