HP has been selected to receive funding from the CHIPS and Science Act, with an agreement reached by the Department of Commerce to provide up to $50 million for the modernization of the company’s Oregon plant. The expansion of HP’s facility is expected to create over 250 jobs and support the development of chips for life sciences lab equipment, including microfluidics technology. This funding is part of the $280 billion CHIPS Act signed by President Biden to incentivize semiconductor manufacturing in America and compete with China while boosting job growth. Previous recipients of funding include Intel, TSMC, Samsung, GlobalFoundries, and Texas Instruments for various chip manufacturing efforts.
