iFixit, embodying the spirit of “screw it, I’ll just do it myself,” is a key proponent of the Right to Repair movement and has now released its own electronics product, FixHub. This USB-C powered soldering iron is designed to be easily fixable and help with repairs on your workbench. Founder Kyle Wiens was frustrated with traditional soldering irons and their limitations, leading to the creation of FixHub, which can reach soldering temperature in just five seconds and includes safety features like an accelerometer to detect when it’s idle and cut power if dropped. The company’s commitment to easy repairability extends to the 55Wh battery pack that can power two irons simultaneously or one while charging a USB-C device. Both products are modular and repairable, coming with an iFixit screwdriver for disassembly. FixHub products will be available for shipment on October 15, with the Smart Soldering Iron priced at $80, the Soldering Station at $250, and the Soldering Toolkit at $300, including accessories and materials.
