Social media platforms are notorious for copying each other’s features, and Instagram’s latest move to introduce a music feature that allows users to attach a song to their profile is no exception. This new feature resembles the long-forgotten Myspace, a platform that Instagram’s parent company arguably surpassed in popularity. To use the feature, users can select a song from the For You section, choose the 30-second segment they want to showcase, and it will remain on their profile until they decide to change it. Instagram collaborated with singer Sabrina Carpenter to promote the feature, offering fans an exclusive preview of her new song “Taste.” This strategy is reminiscent of Meta’s partnership with Taylor Swift earlier in the year, where fans received customized badges on their profile for sharing her Threads account in celebration of her album release. Despite the mimicry among social media platforms, the new music feature on Instagram provides users with a nostalgic touch without the inconvenience of automatic audio playback.
