Instagram is testing a new profile grid layout that features rectangular images instead of the squares you’re used to, as revealed by Adam Mosseri in an Instagram story. The original square grid was designed when the app only allowed square photos, but now the majority of uploads are vertical, prompting the need for a change. The experimental layout looks similar to the current video tab grid and has only rolled out to a small number of users. Feedback will be taken into account before expanding the redesigned grid’s availability, as hinted at in a post by Alessandro Paluzzi. Despite some users expressing unhappiness with the change, it seems like the new rectangular grid layout is on its way to becoming the norm on Instagram.
