In celebration of National Dog Day, Lyft has introduced a new feature called Pet Mode, similar to Uber’s pet-friendly option, where passengers can indicate that they will be bringing a furry friend along for the ride. This feature includes a $4 surcharge that goes directly to the driver. The idea for Pet Mode was inspired by the infamous saga of Tux the Cat, who was briefly lost by a Lyft driver last year. This incident prompted Lyft to implement a system that ensures passengers are matched with pet-friendly drivers to avoid similar mishaps in the future. Ultimately, Tux was found safe and sound, but the situation highlighted the importance of such a feature for pet owners using ride-sharing services.
