Neuralink has published an update on the second patient in its early human trials, noting that it has observed no thread retraction in the participant. The Elon Musk-led startup implants a chip into the human brain, enabling paralyzed patients to control devices and perform tasks with their thoughts. The first patient had some thread retraction issues, but the company took measures to prevent this with the second patient, Alex. Alex has already used his implant for designing and playing video games effectively. Neuralink is working on enhancing the chip’s capabilities to provide more functionality, including improving communication for people with conditions like ALS. Ultimately, the company aims to allow users to interact with the real world using the implant.
