OpenAI is undergoing a major restructuring, shifting from a non-profit board to a for-profit corporation, with Sam Altman set to receive equity in the new entity. While the non-profit will still hold a stake in the for-profit venture, it will have diminished authority. The company remains committed to its mission of creating AI for societal benefit. The move to for-profit could potentially value the company at $150 billion, providing a substantial payday for Altman. The transition has been a long time coming, with details still being finalized.
